BAMS Course Details

Course: Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Duration: 5.5 years total (66 months), comprising academic study followed by a compulsory 1-year rotatory internship, in line with NCISM norms

Mode: Full-time

Intake: Reported seat numbers vary across sources — figures of 50, 75, and 100 seats have all been cited in recent years — so confirm the current sanctioned intake from BHU's official admission notification before applying

Eligibility: Candidates must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology together, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks for general category candidates and 40% for SC/ST candidates; candidates appearing in their qualifying examination may also apply

Age criteria: Candidates must have completed 17 years of age but not crossed 25 years as on December 31 of the year of admission

Selection: Based entirely on NEET (UG) — notably, 100% of BAMS seats at BHU are filled through the All India Quota (AIQ) via the AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC), rather than being split between AIQ and a state quota, which is a distinctive feature compared to most government AYUSH colleges

Admission Process

Appear for NEET (UG): BAMS admission at BHU's Faculty of Ayurveda is entirely NEET-based; it is the sole gateway for admission.

Register for AACCC counselling: Since 100% of BAMS seats at BHU fall under the All India Quota, all eligible candidates register on the AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC) portal after NEET results are declared  there is no separate state counselling process to track for this college.

Choice filling: Select BHU Varanasi under the list of participating AYUSH institutes during AACCC's online counselling rounds.

Seat allotment: Seats are allotted based on NEET rank, category, and seat availability, across AACCC's counselling rounds, including any mop-up or stray vacancy rounds if seats remain unfilled.

Document verification and reporting: Allotted candidates report to the Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS BHU, for document verification with originals — Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and certificates, NEET admit card and scorecard, transfer/migration certificate, ID proof (Aadhaar/PAN), category certificates (if applicable), and passport-size photographs.

Fee payment: Complete fee payment as specified in the counselling schedule to confirm admission; the entire process is 100% merit-based, with no management quota available on regular seats.

Internship Program

The one-year compulsory rotatory internship is an essential part of the BAMS curriculum at the Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS-BHU. Conducted as per NCISM guidelines, the internship provides students with extensive clinical exposure and practical experience in patient care.
