Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC), Gwalior, established in 1946, is the 17th Medical College of India and the first medical college in Madhya Pradesh. Governed by the Gajra Raja Medical College Society under the Department of Medical Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh, the college has produced thousands of eminent doctors and specialists since its inception.

• The idea of establishing a medical college in Gwalior was initiated by Dr. Bhagwat Sahai, then Medical Superintendent of Jaya Arogya Hospital, who envisioned a medical teaching and training center in the region.
• In 1945, the Gajra Raja Memorial Trust sanctioned ₹20 lakhs for construction.
• An additional ₹10 lakhs was donated by Shri G. D. Birla, at the request of Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia.
• On 21 November 1945, Lord Wavell, Viceroy of India, laid the foundation stone of the college.
• The college was inaugurated on 1 August 1946 by Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia in memory of his mother Matoshree Gajra Raja.
• Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel inaugurated the college building on 5 December 1948.
• Kamla Raja Hospital for Women & Children was added to the J.A. Group of Hospitals in 1952, inaugurated by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
• Postgraduate training began in 1951, and today GRMC offers 15 PG curricula and super-specialty courses in Neurosurgery.
