Government Medical College, Idukki (GMC Idukki), located in Cheruthoni, Kerala, is one of the newest government medical colleges in the state. Established in 2014, the institution was conceptualized as part of the Government of Kerala’s vision to provide tertiary healthcare and advanced medical education in remote, tribal, and hilly regions of the state.
The college was initially upgraded from the existing District Hospital, Idukki, with KITCO entrusted to develop the academic block, hospital complex, and residential quarters. Today, the institution is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, and its MBBS program is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
After overcoming infrastructure challenges in the early years, the college received NMC approval in 2022 for an annual intake of 100 MBBS seats. It is now a growing hub for medical education, patient care, and community health services in central Kerala.
