The KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), Deemed-to-be- University established on 13 th April 2006 is one the premier Health Science Universities in the country imparting high quality health professional education at Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and Post doctoral levels. Based on the excellent infrastructure, faculty base, research, contemporary teaching and training practices and overall academic environment, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, on the recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC), granted Deemed-to-be-University status on 13 th April 2006. At present, there are nine colleges under the ambit of KAHER. The University has been accredited with ‘A+’ Grade by NAAC 

The sponsoring society of KAHER viz., KLE Society, established in 1916 has over the years established itself as a rising star in the field of education and healthcare. The KLE Society celebrated its centenary year in 2015-16. The KLE Society is unique in its character as it was formed by seven visionary and dedicated teachers “Saptharishis” with philanthropic support from three generous Patrons. It is also unique in its association and governance, as it runs purely on democratic values and principles with a charitable objective. The Society, however, has undergone rapid metamorphosis under the able leadership of its Chairman DR. Prabhakar Kore under whom for the last 35 years , the society has bloomed and blossomed and today it encompasses 310 institutions all over the country which in itself is an inspirational achievement.

Teaching-Learning Practices:

The University is known for its robust student-centric teaching-learning strategy. Apart from conventional lectures and tutorials, there is emphasis on hands-on training, small group discussions, learning while doing, etc. ICT is extensively used in teaching-learning process, concepts like web-based learning, blended learning, flipped class-room, etc. are practiced here. The focus of teaching and learning strategies is on higher level of learning, critical thinking, problem solving, clinical decision making, etc.

Research:

The Maternal and New Born Research Unit of the University is known globally for its research in maternal and new born health.

This unit has received unique distinction as ‘WHO Collaborating Centre’ in Maternal and Perinatal Health for a period of four years, the first of its kind for a private University in South India.

The Jagadguru Gangadhar Mahaswamigalu Moorsavirmath Medical College (JGMMMC) of KLE Academy of Higher Education & Research (Deemed-to-be-University) is being established at Gabbur, Hubballi. It is the 2 nd Medical College of KAHER. The first being the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belagavi which is 100 kms away. This college is 55 years old with 200 admissions, with all PG Courses and most of the Super Specialty courses. The medical college has 2400 bedded teaching hospital. With this background of having the rich experience in running an established medical college, the KAHER is in the process of establishment of new medical college at Hubballi named Jagadguru Gangadhar Mahaswamigalu Moorsavirmath Medical College. The college has 34 acres of land in the outskirts of Hubballi City in North Karnataka.
