Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital (LMCH), North Lakhimpur, is the 8th government medical college of Assam, established to meet the increasing demand for healthcare services and medical education in Northern Assam. It was approved by the Government of India on 30 May 2020 under the Central Sector Scheme “Establishment of New Medical College attached with existing District/Referral Hospitals”.
The North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital (est. 1987) was amalgamated into LMCH on 8 January 2021, and the institution formally started functioning from 1 October 2021. Today, LMCH is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Guwahati.
With an annual intake of 100 MBBS students, LMCH plays a pivotal role in serving not only Lakhimpur district but also neighboring districts like Majuli, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Dhakuakhana, Bihpuria, Narayanpur, Gogamukh, and bordering regions of Arunachal Pradesh.
