CMSDH stands on the historic foundation of the Sagore Dutta Charitable Hospital, established by philanthropist Sri Sagore Dutta. His contribution to education and healthcare in Kamarhati was recognized by the British government in 1937. In 1958, the West Bengal Government took over the hospital under the Sagore Dutta Hospital Act, upgrading it into a State General Hospital and eventually into a medical college in 2010.
