About Deben Mahata Government Medical College (Purulia)

Deben Mahata Government Medical College was set up by the Government of West Bengal in 2018 (formally operational since 2020) to address the acute shortage of doctors in the Purulia region.

Originally referred to as Purulia Government Medical College, the institution was renamed in memory of Deben Mahata, a local leader.

The college is built across a modern campus that includes teaching blocks, hostels, staff quarters, and residential complexes. With its tribal outreach and regional healthcare focus, DMGMCH plays a critical role in medical education and healthcare in western West Bengal.
