Government Medical College, Srikakulam (formerly Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences – RIMS Srikakulam) is one of the leading government medical colleges in Uttarandhra region, Andhra Pradesh. Established in 2008 on the banks of the Nagavali River, the college was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
Spread over 36 acres, GMC Srikakulam is affiliated with Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). It started with 100 MBBS seats, increased to 150 in 2019, and further expanded to 200 seats from 2024-25, making it one of the largest medical colleges in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The attached Government General Hospital (GGH) has over 800 beds and provides comprehensive healthcare facilities, serving as a major referral hospital for Srikakulam district.

The foundation of GMC Srikakulam was laid in 2008 with the mission of improving healthcare and medical education in North Andhra Pradesh. Initially functioning with 100 MBBS seats, the intake was expanded to 150 in 2019 and to 200 in 2024-25.
The college played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, with over 800 oxygen beds, ICUs, and dedicated COVID control units. The Virology Diagnostic & Research Laboratory (VDRL) was also set up in 2020.
The vision of GMC Srikakulam is to be a center of excellence in medical education, patient care, and research while catering to the underserved regions of Uttarandhra.
