All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna, located at Phulwari Sharif, Patna, Bihar, is one of the premier Institutes of National Importance (INI) established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). It was conceptualized following the announcement by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 15 August 2003 and formally set up through the AIIMS (Amendment) Act, 2012.

As one of the six AIIMS institutes established in Phase I (along with Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, and Rishikesh), AIIMS Patna was created to address regional healthcare imbalances, strengthen tertiary care facilities, and promote excellence in medical education and research.

The institute began operations in September 2012, with the first batch of MBBS students admitted in 2012 and the hospital services starting in 2013. Today, AIIMS Patna offers UG, PG, Super-specialty, Nursing, and PhD programs, with a strong emphasis on research and innovation.
